Self promo video reel.

I’ve put together this short video of Birmingham to try and stir up interest in video for web sites.

Waiting

A very short film shot in the “street photography” style using the iPhone 4s and the Canon S95 cameras.

Many miles to go!

Well I pumped up my tyres, oiled the gears and away I went chasing my six years old grandson Joshua on his “Ben Ten” bike. He has just cast off his stabilizers and gained his cycling freedom. Now he just won’t stop! Every day he cycles to our house to “pick up” grandad to play on our bikes. It’s difficult to explain the feeling I get, excitement, joy, happiness that I can still get my leg over the saddle and join him in his exploration of his found freedom. The feeling of love and the bond between a grandad and grandson is as strong as that found between a father and son. I’m lucky to have and son and grandson.
I put together a very short film of our first ride together.

Camusdarach

Just spent the most fabulous three days in the Camusdarach area in the west of Scotland. I went camping with my son Chris who lives in Glasgow and my good mate Kevin who lives in Cumbria. I have been struck by the beauty of the white sandy beaches that line that part of the coast matching beaches I have seen anywhere in the world.
I shot this little video on the Canon xf105 camera and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 software.

Race Car

I was commissioned to photograph the launch of University of Birmingham’s Mechanical Engineering students latest race car today and I thought I would see if I could squeeze a video out of the shoot. It was shot using the Canon XF105 video camera and edited in Apple’s new Final Cut Pro X editing software. Rather obvious music I’m afraid.

Javea Street

Javea Street is not a real street but a street I fell in love with in Javea, Spain. It’s amazing what you can photograph within 10 minutes sitting in the same seat just people watching. I suppose this set falls into the “Street Photography” style of images. For me they are just people pictures. Pictures of people that were walking along a street that I just happened to be sitting on drinking a small glass of beer and that is all the time it took to make these images. The time it took me to drink a small glass of cool Spanish beer.

A trio of motors

Three very different motor vehicles I saw on my walk back from the beach bar today

A small beer

Enjoying a daily walk to Mintt Bar in Javea Spain for a small beer or two. A little film shot on the Canon S95 camera and edited while I was at the bar.

Colors of the Street ?

I’m still in “street mode”.
A question…Does “street photography” need to be black & white or should it portray the real colors of the world around us. What makes an image in black & white seem so important? Does converting a color image to black & white make it more important?
Do we really think that the great Henri Cartier-Breson would be shooting black and white film if he were actively shooting today? Would he be shooting digital (of course he would) and converting them in to black & white?
Here are a couple of street portraits that I just think look better in b&w but they were shot in color.

Street2

Been doing a bit more “on the streets”. Three more images that could fall in to the StreetPhotography category that is making a resurgence onto the art scene. Personally I don’t think it ever went away and I for one have been working the streets for many years. Still have to do my day job though.
